#1127 for broadcast on 2CH Sydney, 20 September 2015.
The refusal by Kentucky clerk Kim Davis to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples in defiance of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in favour of same sex marriage, for which she spent six days in jail, has ignited enormous interest, including that of prominent Baptist minister John Piper.
Dr Piper, who has served as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis for 33 years, endorsed Ms Davis’s action, claiming the Supreme Court decision was a departure from God’s will.
Not one to mince words, Dr Piper said same sex marriage was a “non-existent illusion,” active homosexuals would suffer “eternal capital punishment,” and it was right to disobey state authorities that promoted evil and punished good.
John Piper said the Kim Davis case was “just one prominent case of what will be hundreds in the months and years to come as Christians and others draw a line of conscience beyond which they will not go.”
