In late July, the NSW Legislative Council Standing Committee on Social Issues handed down its report on whether NSW should legislate in favour of same sex marriage.
As the September issue of Presbyterian Pulse notes, “Among other things the committee used the emotive and biased language of ‘marriage equality’ throughout, and unsurprisingly found that the State could legislate,” although this may be subject to High Court challenge.
But the report may not have accurately represented the evidence. According to Presbyterian Pulse:
The report’s language is emotive and fails dismally to deal adequately with the serious legal and practical issues brought before it. Some compelling evidence was ignored and excluded.
The NSW Council of Churches joins with the leaders of the Presbyterian Church in urging those who want to retain and protect genuine marriage in NSW to strongly express their concerns to their local State Member, and do so quickly.
