Christmas and New Year provide an opportunity to assess the past and make the changes we need for better times ahead, especially at work.
Kara Martin, Associate Dean of the Marketplace Institute at Melbourne’s Ridley College, says
this is a time to live out the themes of the Christmas story: peace, goodwill, giving… What can you do to make your workplace a more peaceful place: is there someone you can reconcile with, naming Christmas as your motivation?
She suggests praying for work colleagues going through hard times, or writing Christmas cards to your colleagues, with a message that recognises the positive values you see in them.
For Christians, the birth of Jesus heralds a new era of peace and justice, so consider buying gifts that promote justice: a goat, education supplies, water sanitation.
Christmas is also a time of praying for opportunities to speak, to serve and cooperate with God in transforming your workplace. Food for thought and action this Christmas season.
I’m Rod Benson for the NSW Council of Churches.
