Liberal Premier Mike Baird is a man of strong Christian convictions. Elected unopposed as Premier following the resignation of Barry O’Farrell earlier this month, Mr Baird attends St Matthew’s Anglican Church in his beachside electorate of Manly.
Senior Minister, the Reverend Bruce Clark, told Eternity newspaper: “Mike Baird is a man with a real Christian faith in the Lord Jesus and a genuine concern and compassion for people of all walks of life.”
The Premier speaks regularly at Christian gatherings about how he straddles faith and politics, and said in his maiden speech to Parliament his faith in Jesus Christ would ground him, shape him and provide his motivation to serve.
Mr Baird said he looks to heroes like William Wilberforce and Dr Martin Luther King Jnr for inspiration. He is known for his socially conservative views, including being pro-life, anti-stem cell research, anti-euthanasia and opposed to same-sex marriage.
