A leading Bible-reading app used on smart phones and tablets recently analysed how its millions of users used the Bible in 2013.
According to a report in Christianity Today, users shared 68 million Bible verses in 2013 via the uber-popular Bible app, YouVersion, which was installed on devices nearly 123 million times worldwide this year.
And the Bible verse that was “bookmarked, highlighted, and shared … more than any other verse” in 2013? Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Rounding out the top five were Isaiah 40:31, Matthew 6:13, Joshua 1:9, and Philippians 4:6.
When US President Barack Obama was asked to name his favourite Biblical texts, he cited Isaiah 40:31 and Psalm 46 as scriptural passages that offer him encouragement.
Former political opponent Mitt Romney nominated Matthew 25:35-36, “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me.”
