The 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches was held in the Korean city of Busan from October 30 to November 8. A total of 345 member churches and partner organisations gathered for prayer, discussion and decision-making under the theme, “God of life, lead us to justice and peace.”
A statement released following the Assembly said:
We live in a time of global crises. Economic, ecological, socio-political and spiritual challenges confront us. In darkness and in the shadow of death, in suffering and persecution, how precious is the gift of hope from the Risen Lord! … We challenge all people of good will to engage their God-given gifts in transforming actions.
While the NSW Council of Churches is not formally associated with the World Council of Churches, its members share a similar desire to see the truth, justice and peace of God increasingly breaking in on our troubled world, bringing transformation and healing.
