The Australian Christian Lobby reacted strongly this week to news that former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd had reversed his opposition to same sex marriage.
ACL Managing Director Lyle Shelton said Mr Rudd’s change of mind on redefining marriage “ignored the consequence of robbing children of their biological identity through same sex surrogacy and other assisted reproductive technologies.”
He said “Marriage is not just an affectionate relationship between two people regardless of gender. Marriage has always been about providing stability and biological identity for children wherever possible.”
Invoking the prospect of a new “stolen generation,” Mr Shelton questioned the justice of children being taken from their biological parents through technology so that same sex couples could “fulfil their desires.”
Mr Rudd’s change of mind on marriage comes as a huge disappointment to Christians and leaves their hopes for the preservation of marriage clearly with the federal Coalition and Christian-based minor parties.
