Broadcast on 2CH Sydney, 21 April 2013
As Anzac Day approaches this week, we reflect on the past and remember that nothing can diminish the courage and bravery of our women and men who answered the call of duty and fought to protect the honour of their country and the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of our liberal democratic nation.
On Thursday, 98 years after those tragic defining events of Gallipoli and other theatres of war during the darkest days of World War I, we will remember them, and all who have made sacrifices and invested everything in a just cause, often with limited resources and no certain hope of victory.
And we will remember those who proudly wore their uniform and served their nation in times of peace, and the families and loved ones who supported them, and those who helped behind the scenes, in every decade, in every place, so that you and I might enjoy a better future.
I’m Rod Benson for the NSW Council of Churches.
