As you may be aware, there are currently three bills before the Federal Parliament seeking to amend the Marriage Act 1961 by repealing the definition of marriage and substituting the words ‘a man and a woman’ with the words ‘two people’. There are various definitions being proposed in the three bills, but it will essentially mean that the definition of marriage is no longer exclusively between a man and a woman.
Each of these bills is currently the subject of government inquiries which are seeking public comment. If you would like to have your say on whether the government should expand the definition of marriage to include same sex couples, here’s how to do it:
Go to the federal government’s online survey (https://www.surveymk.com/s/spla-marriage) and follow the instructions.
